ANNOUNCEMENT
flag (2).jpeg

My name is Sheriff Craig Allison and I will be seeking re-election as Sheriff in 2024. My aspirations to be your Sheriff comes from a strong desire to serve my community, Montgomery County, where I was born and raised. Except for my years serving my country in the U.S. Army, I have lived my entire life here in Middletown, Missouri. My family currently still lives on the same family farm and our roots date back to 1817 in Montgomery County. For these reasons, I have a vested interest in the safety of the entire community, and I do not want to entrust that to just anyone.

I am married to Lisa Bryson Allison and we have 5 children and 5 grandchildren. I am the son of Rodney and Geneva Allison. I am a member and currently an Elder of the Middletown Christian Church.  I graduated from Wellsville-Middletown R-1 in May of 1990. Shortly after, on May 24, 1990, I left to serve active duty in the U.S. Army. While serving in the Army, I received the National Defense Service Medal for serving during the Gulf War. After leaving the Army, I continued as a Reserve, until my obligation was completed, in November of 1997.

In January of 1995, I was hired on the Wellsville Police Department by Chief Donny Bryson as a part-time police officer. I worked for WPD from 1995-2005. Wellsville Police Department supported me as I attended the Police Academy. I graduated the Academy in May of 1995. On July 12, 1995, I was hired as a deputy sheriff and sworn in with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff John Whyte. While working as a patrol deputy, I was promoted to Corporal in 1998, to Sergeant in 1999, and Lieutenant in 2005. In 2008 I was promoted to Captain and, with that, accepted the huge responsibility of Jail Administrator for the Montgomery County Jail. During my time as Jail Administrator I wrote the new Policy and Procedure that is now shared throughout the state. I have led my team through the 17+ contracted inspections required by ICE. These inspections consist of a team of 4-5 inspectors from across the United States and it basically encompasses spending your entire week going through every aspect of the Jail. We have passed every inspection with little to no deficiencies. I do not take credit for all of this because the staff works very hard in preparation of these inspections. The Sheriff has to understand that the Jail is the largest liability concern under his controls and he must have a complete understanding of the operation of the jail. I have this understanding. I have the experience it takes to run a Jail and minimize the liability by providing the right leadership, resources, and training to the staff.

I was promoted to my current position, Chief Deputy (UnderSheriff), in 2017, and during my 24 ½ years with the Sheriff’s Office, I have served in all aspects, from the patrol division for 13 years, to upper level administration for the past 11 ½ years. During the past 11 ½ years in administration, I have continually worked hand in hand with Sheriff Schoo in the planning and management of the over 2 million dollar budget allotted to the Sheriff’s Office and Jail. I look forward to the future and realize that if someone not familiar with our Sheriff’s Office were elected, there would be a real chance that the level of service to the county would suffer. The job of the Sheriff is not an entry level position; it is going to take experience to effectively manage the more than 40 employees that work for the Sheriff’s Office, the 95 bed Jail Facility, and the multi-million dollar budget.

On August 4, 2020, I was elected Sheriff of Montgomery County. I officially took office and assumed the position as sheriff on January 1, 2021. I strongly believe in honesty. I lead by being transparent and direct with my staff and the community that I serve. I believe that honesty helps to build trust, improve relationships, and develop stronger communities. I have the experience, and I am asking for support from the voters of Montgomery County to re-elect me as your Sheriff.
