PART I: COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS AND PARTNERSHIPS

When elected Sheriff, you will get to meet and know the employees of the Sheriff’s Office, because it takes a team and the Sheriff knows he cannot do it alone.  The employees of the Sheriff’s Office will be encouraged to get involved, seek out and participate in community events, speak up, and make a difference in their workplace and their communities.

We will make the Sheriff’s Office more accessible, responsive, inclusive, open and more visible and active throughout the entire county. In doing so, we will focus on the following areas;

  • Relationships and Partnerships: We will build relationships and create partnerships with the communities through interactions with members of the public by attending meetings with community leaders, civic organizations, city councils, school officials, local businesses, and church groups.

  • Public Safety and Support Services: We will build relationships by meeting regularly with local Law Enforcement Leaders, Social Services, Community Out-Reach Groups, and local Support Services, creating partnerships and strategies for problem-solving and reducing crime and disorder.

  • Voice: Give the citizens more control over the quality of life in their communities by giving them a VOICE that will be HEARD.

  • Primary Needs and Expectations: Ensuring we address the primary needs and expectations of each individual community that we serve.

    • We, as law enforcement officers, tend to think we know the needs of the community. We tend to get focused on drug interdiction or DWIs but, that might not be the primary concern of that individual community.

    • Montgomery County covers an area of approximately 542 square miles and within the county we have, what I would consider, 18 Communities.

    • In short, the Middletown Communities primary concern might be speeding traffic and 50 miles away, the Rhineland Community’s primary concern might be anhydrous thefts or noise complaints. We must ensure we are meeting the needs of each individual community and the only way to accomplish this goal, is for each individual community to have a VOICE that will be HEARD.

  • Provide Training and Educational Programs: We will provide training and educational programs to our communities on issues pertaining, but not limited to; Crime Prevention, Commercial and Home Security, Active Shooter, Firearms Safety, Self Defense, and more.

  • Social Media: We will embrace technology and expand upon the level of trust in the Sheriff’s Office. We will provide the public with information on recent crimes that are in the area, ways to avoid them, and how and where to report them. We will work cooperatively with all media sources highlighting recent arrests, crimes investigated, department functions, and programs hosted by the Sheriff’s Office.

  • Schools and Our Future Leaders: I believe a safe learning environment is essential for students of all ages. Without it they are unable to focus on learning the skills needed for a successful education and future. When elected Sheriff, we will increase law enforcement presence in all schools in Montgomery County and continue to provide training and educational programs on school safety.

    • School Resource Officer Program: Within the first three years and through cooperative agreements between the Sheriff’s Office and the schools in Montgomery County, we will implement a School Resource Officer Program that addresses day-to-day issues at the schools, coordinates with school faculty to develop plans and strategies to resolve problems affecting youth and protecting all students, so that they can reach their fullest potentials.

The Office of Sheriff requires a common sense commitment to enhance the quality of lives for the residents, businesses, and visitors of the County. As Law Enforcement Leaders, common sense should tell us that we cannot win the fight against crime without enlisting the help of our communities that we serve. I believe we are all responsible and together we must take a unified stand against crime, violence, and disregard for the law. Together we will strive to build stronger communities, communities in which crime and disorder will not thrive.
